Thank you for your interest in presenting at Leading Women’s AWE conference.

Leading Women’s AWE Conference - Advancing Women’s Excellence in Business, is a day of business building, professional development and networking event geared towards business women in all industries and sectors. The Conference, to be held on June 14, 2012, draws women from across Southeastern New England - both entrepreneurs and corporate professionals. AWE Conference’s non-profit partner is the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation.

This year’s Conference theme is Turning Points for Success. Our goal is hear from accomplished business women who can share their unique perspectives, best practices and tangible advice for navigating through turning points - helping women tackle business challenges and catapult their success forward.

We are seeking presenters and panelists who have a fresh, innovative twists on topics such as business acumen, career management, communication skills, leadership skills, presentation skills, marketing, networking, work-life balance etc.

We ask that you submit your proposal based on the information below. In addition, you may also email us your proposal. Please include your website.

Presentors- Industry experts and business leaders.

For general sessions/keynotes: topics should be appropriate for a diverse group of attendees from all industries, sectors, and job functions.

For breakout sessions: skilled topics can be geared towards entrepreneurs or corporate professionals or both. Session presention @55 minutes.

Panelists - successfull professionals from either the corporate side or women-owned business.

Seeking a diverses pool of panelists to particiapte in panel discussions.

Business & Life Coaches

To provide complimentary coaching sessions throughout the day on important topics such as business issues, career management and women's lives outside of work, such as healthy living, financial well-being.

About Barbara Jackson

Barbara Jackson has over twenty five years of management and consulting experience leading organizations. Now COO of TCP Learning, Barbara has been a pioneer in the field of virtual interactions. TCP Learning builds custom online training materials that offer a unique Total Learning Environment – combining online learning with classroom and webinar events, coaching and mentoring, and the opportunity to participate in a branded continuous learning community. TCP

Barbara previously founded 3 Step Networks, one of the first social media platforms and One to One Tours, a company that produces self-guided audio tours using multiple technologies – downloads, pre-loaded MP3s, CDs and DVDs. In 2002 Barbara founded, Makau Corporation, one of the early e-learning companies building a library of over 750 technical courses and more than 50 “soft skill” interactive courses, engineering a new presentation methodology for the successful delivery of on demand personal development courseware.

Before becoming a serial entrepreneur, Barbara held key management positions in state and municipal governments, all of which required rapid diagnosis of core operational problems and the implementation of solutions. As the Budget Director for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, she managed the $16 billion budget and implemented a fiscal strategy that yielded a turnaround from near bankruptcy in 1991 and an unprecedented four point upgrade from the Wall Street rating agencies in only 36 months. Earlier, while working for New York City, she was the Commissioner of Surface Transit at the Department of Transportation; which included running the venerable Staten Island Ferry. As the First Deputy Commissioner of the NYC Department of Ports and Trade, she reformed the Building Inspection, Waterfront Construction, and Real Estate Divisions and conducted real estate negotiations with the Port Authority for expansion of NYC airports. As VP Finance and Budget for NJTransit, she was responsible for financial management of the statewide transportation agency and obtained financing for two extensions of the North East Rail Corridor. Barbara was also a Deputy Director in NYC’s Office of Management and Budget where her focus was on the operational units at NYPD during the fiscally challenged years of the City’s bankruptcy in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

As a consultant Barbara built programs that maximized employee performance at all organizational levels. A few of her clients have included Time Magazine, United Nations Development Program, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Harvard Graduate School of Design, and various organizations within GE Capital’s European Division.

She is a Board Member of the North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce, the Quonset Development Corporation and a past Director of the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation. She is an avid sailor and is active in community programs. Her most recent book, UP – Power, Influence, and the You Perspective, is a Director’s Pick for the Association of Financial Executives and Working Mother Media.

After a 33-year career as a nurse and senior administrator championing community health programs, Marie Ghazal became CEO of the Rhode Island Free Clinic in 2010, heralding a major turning point for the Clinic and for her.

Hear Marie’s engaging story of the personal and professional challenges she faces leading a dynamic nonprofit that provides health care to uninsured, low-income, working poor adults. About Marie Ghazal

Marie has extensive experience in community health centers developing and implementing programs and services for disadvantaged populations and securing new sources of revenue. She served as a Health Center Director in Central Falls and for the past twenty years as a Senior Vice President of Patient Care for the Community Health Centers in Providence. Marie holds a Masters in Community Health from Boston University and a Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Rhode Island. In the Providence Community, she is responsible for developing and operating the health care for the homeless clinic, the dental clinics for poor children and pregnant women, the State's Sexually-Transmitted Disease Clinic, the school clinic and initiating a volunteer staff model.

Marie is a seasoned leader who is well respected in the Rhode Island community. Over the years, she has been honored as the top-nursing alumni at URI, inducted as a Community leader by Sigma Theta Tau, selected for the President's award by Rhode Island State Nurses and as a semi-finalist for the Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellows Program. She is a graduate of Leadership Rhode Island and currently serves on the Board of the Rhode Island Quality Institute.

About Janet G. Colantuono

Janet has deep experience in management and marketing in both the non-profit and corporate sectors. As Hurricane Voices Breast Cancer Foundation's executive director, she led the Foundation's strategic programming - raising an influential voice for breast cancer advocacy. The Foundation's innovative programs included groundbreaking conferences and the revolutionary survey, "Cognitive Changes Related to Cancer Treatment" which became the touchstone for acknowledging patients' experiences, was covered by the international press, and was incorporated into the book "Your Brain After Chemo."

Janet's dual career pairs her professional background with a focus on wellbeing. As a yoga and meditation instructor and practitioner of healing energy, Janet partners with corporations and employees assistance providers to bring wellness programs into the workplace. Clients have included Dunkin Brands, Bose, AS&E, Tolerx, Infinity Pharmaceuticals, and others.

Throughout her career Janet has exhibited a long-term commitment to varied philanthropic events and projects. She currently serves on the scientific advisory board for Art beCause, and volunteers with Iron Work Farm. Anne Szostak is a business and community leader with significant management and board experience in the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors.Currently President and CEO of Szostak Partners, LLC, a Providence, RI-based consulting firm, Anne provides practical advice and counsel to leaders who are trying to solve real business problems. Her extensive experience in financial services and human resources allows her to coach executive leaders in all industries.

Before starting her consulting practice, Anne built a successful career at Fleet Boston Financial (now Bank of America) in both line and staff roles. She served as a member of the Executive Committee and Corporate Executive Vice President of this diversified financial firm with assets of $200 billion and 55,000 employees. She also served as Chairman and CEO of Fleet Bank of RI (2001-2003) and Chairman and CEO of Fleet Bank of Maine (1991-1994). In addition to assisting the bank with over 100 acquisitions, she led the company’s efforts to become an employer of choice.

Anne currently sits on the boards of Tupperware Brands Corporation, Belo Corporation, SFN Group, Inc., and Dr. Pepper Snapple. She is active on several not-for-profit boards: Trustee and Immediate Past Chairman of the Women & Infants Hospital Board; Director of the Rhode Island Foundation; Governor and Chairman Emeritus of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America; and Trustee Emeritus of Colby College. A Unique Leadership Development Experience

One of the best ways to test and strengthen your leadership skills is to apply them outside your current organization. Volunteer positions, board positions and leadership programs that employ simulations are among the options for doing this. Leading Women is offering another while also extending into an emerging market our mission to inspire and power women's success. This unique program combines personal leadership development and a focus on strategy, strategy execution and change with the opportunity to apply leadership skills in support of women's cooperatives around the shores of beautiful Lake Atitlan in Guatemala.

Pre-Work Teleseminar: Before arriving in Guatemala you will discuss your learning/contribution goals, be introduced to your learning team members and cooperative.

Friday 3/23 - Arrive Guatemala: Orientation and introduction dinner

Saturday and Sunday 3/24 - 25: Leadership intensive with a focus on strategy setting, strategy execution and leading change.

Monday - Friday 3/26 - 30

Early Morning: The Yogic Path for Leaders: Rise and shine for a unique yoga experience that highlights the direct relationship between the everyday demands of leadership positions and concepts central to yoga such as centering, balance, flexibility, resilience and equanimity.

Leadership in Action: Small teams of participants work with one of several women's cooperatives around Lake Atitlan. You will be matched with a cooperative based on the skill-set you offer and your expressed interest. Coops include: maternal health education, micro-credit, weaving and others.

Evening: Expert Lectures and/or Debrief and Peer Coaching

Guest lecturers will discuss sustainability and globalization as well as local culture. Teams will report on their day, discuss next steps and receive peer coaching to enhance the success of their efforts with the cooperative. Individually, you will process the day's experience in light of your development goals and 360 feedback.

Saturday 3/31 - Depart Guatemala

Over breakfast teams will present the plans they've established for capacity building and strategy execution. Individuals will report on lessons learned and their personal Lead ON! action plans. Then we depart for Guatemala City and our flights home (except for those lucky enough to spend a few additional days in Antigua.)

The Cooperatives

Because the coops range from small to mid-sized, you enjoy an executive perspective on the overall business and are able to make a big impact in a small time.

Because time is limited, your ability to engage and align others (especially working across different cultures...and in some cases language) is tested and honed.

The number of sites will vary depending on the number of participants. We plan on up to 3 women at each site. Each will take a turn as an observer looking for demonstrated leadership at various phases of the process of meeting, developing relationships, problem identification, engaged solution development.

Susan Colantuono, CEO & Founder of Leading Women and author of No Ceiling, No Walls; What women haven't been told about leadership from career-start to the corporate boardroom is the lead facilitator for the program. Susan is the creator of Leading Women's Leadership Mastery™ program for senior managers and Purpose, Power, Presence™ workshop for middle managers (formerly the Women's Institute for Leadership offered by the Executive Development Center at Bryant University). She is one of Rhode Island's 2 delegates to Vision 2020 (a decade-long initiative to advance women's equality) and has been honored by Providence Business News as Ally and Mentor for Businesswomen. Tuition

Tuition includes the intensive leadership program, all related materials (including a copy of No Ceiling, No Walls and Leading Women's unique 360 assessment), 8 nights lodging, breakfast, lunch and most dinners, optional yoga lessons, all transportation (except via launch to the village of your cooperative, interpreters, and a donation to each cooperative.

Not included transportation to and from Guatemala, and 1 dinner in Antigua.

Maya Medical Aid requests a $375 donation from those who participate in the dental/medical program there. Tuition choices on the registration page reflect the added donation.

Payment: Please select "register". We have entered the amount due based on three nights (4/1-4/3) or two night stays (4/2-4/3).

(If you are looking for a little extra R&R, we invite you to arrive on Sunday so you can take full advantage of the Spa.) The fee per night is $215, Includes Accommodations, Meals*, Resort Fees & Taxes. Upon check in you will be asked to provide a credit card for any incidentals you may incur during your stay. Each of the rooms feature elegantly refined décor, plush bathrobes, and a bathroom supplied with spa amenities. Wireless high-speed Internet service is provided in all guestrooms, along with a complimentary compact disc stereo. All rooms have an in-room safe for valuables, iron with ironing board and hair dryer.

Kensington's: Kensington's offers a comfortable atmosphere, impeccable service, and a traditional menu selections. All healthfully prepared with the finest ingredients, including naturally raised beef, pork and poultry. Kensington's extensive wine list includes some of the world’s finest vintages. We will be dining in Kensington's Private Dinning Room on Tuesday.

Ascot's Pub: Located off the main lobby, Ascot's is the embodiment of a classic a pub in a New England country inn. Sit in front of a roaring fire, or simply relax at their knotty pine bar with its collection of hunting prints and antique sports equipment. Ascot's serves drinks and lighter fare, complementing Kensington's full menu.
